Police: passenger grabs Ore. bus driver by throat

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Portland police say a man described as disruptive and verbally abusive walked up the aisle of a TriMet transit bus and grabbed the driver by the throat after the driver stopped the bus and told the passenger to leave.

Sgt. Pete Simpson said passengers yelled at the man to let the driver go Monday afternoon and he did, stepping off the bus.

Police arrested 55-year-old Presley Ewing IV on a probation violation warrant and for investigation of third-degree theft and interfering with public transportation.

The 63-year-old bus driver was not seriously hurt.
