Manslaughter verdict in 1996 slaying of teen girl
Tuesday, February 14, 2012
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) -- A jury in Medford has found a Jackson County man guilty of manslaughter, but not murder, in the 1996 slaying of a 15-year-old girl in the rural community of Ruch (roosh).
William Frank Simmons was 16 when Kaelin Glazier disappeared, and the last person known to see her alive.
The girl's remains were not found until 2008, in a field about 80 yards from the trailer where Simmons lived. Her head was wrapped in duct tape and a cut on a rib indicated she may have been stabbed.
The Mail Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/wDGk7a) that the jurors voted 10-2 Tuesday to convict Simmons of manslaughter, a charge the judge told them they could resort to if they could not reach a unanimous finding on the murder charge.
