Convenience-focused consumers helped Vancouver-based Papa Murphy’s International draw a larger slice of the multibillion-dollar pizza industry pie in 2011, according to a statement issued Monday.

Sales across the chain grew to $702 million last year, up 10 percent from 2010 sales. More than 800 new employees were hired in 2011 at the company’s 1,300 franchised and corporate-owned locations.

Ken Calwell, Papa Murphy’s chief executive officer, attributed the sales growth to the company’s take-and-bake pizza concept, which he said allows busy parents to “feel good about serving their family at the end of a long day.”
