SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. (AP) — A man reportedly threatened three people with a gun in Spokane Valley, Wash., in a display that led to lockdowns at two nearby schools.

The Spokesman-Review newspaper said a 39-year-old man was arrested without incident later Wednesday after the Spokane County SWAT team and Spokane Valley police surrounded a nearby home.

Students were released from North Pines Middle School and Broadway Elementary School.

Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Craig Chamberlin says the incident began when the man climbed through the window of an ex-girlfriend’s apartment and pointed a gun at two occupants. Chamberlin says the man apparently tried to fire but it appears the gun jammed.

The man ran to another apartment building and pointed the gun at a third person, who chased him. Chamberlin says that’s when the man ran into the home of an acquaintance and officers surrounded the home.
