LONDON (AP) — Organizers have described the track at the Olympic Velodrome as a sprinter’s paradise, raising the possibility of record times at the London Games.
Many of the world’s leading cyclists are sampling the track this week ahead of a World Cup meet starting Thursday. It is the first event held at the Olympic Park venue.
Simon Lillistone, cycling manager for London’s organizing committee, says Australian designer Ron Webb “wants to evolve his tracks to make sure they’re as fast as possible.” He says the feedback from riders so far suggests that is the case.
British cyclist Chris Hoy won three gold medals in Beijing. He says “any chance to get on the boards and become familiar with the venue is valuable.”
