West Ham player charged over gay slur on Twitter

LONDON (AP) -- The English Football Association has charged West Ham midfielder Ravel Morrison with using a gay slur on Twitter.

The FA says Wednesday that Morrison has been charged with using "abusive and/or insulting words including a reference to a person's sexual orientation."

The tweet has since been deleted.

The 19-year-old Morrison, who joined West Ham from Manchester United last month after a series of disciplinary issues, has until Friday to respond to the charge.
