BOONE, N.C. (AP) — Mike Neal scored 23 points, including knocking down four 3-pointers, to lead Appalachian State over Chattanooga 79-70 on Wednesday night.

Nathan Healy added 11 points for the Mountaineers (11-15, 7-9 Southern Conference), who avenged a Jan. 7 loss to the Mocs. Appalachian State has now won two of its last three games after a three-game losing skid.

In a game that was close for most of the first half, the Mountaineers broke open a four-point game with 7:48 before halftime thanks to a 14-1 run. Appalachian State led 40-25 at the break and won despite being outscored 45-39 in the second half by Chattanooga.

The Mountaineers outshot the Mocs 45.8 percent (27 of 59) to 33.3 percent (23 of 69) from the floor.

Dontay Hampton finished with 17 points to pace the Mocs (10-18, 4-11), who have lost nine of their past 10.
