EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Finance industry regulators say a Eugene financial planner arrested last week on theft charges has left a trail of victims.

The Register-Guard reports (http://bit.ly/xpoaTj ) they include an 81-year-old retiree, a church and the owner of a small office-supply company.

The disciplinary complaint was filed Tuesday by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, an industry self-policing organization. It says James Scott McKee improperly used at least $650,000 of his customers’ money for his own benefit.

The organization alleges, for example, that McKee abused his victims’ trust by persuading them to invest in real estate ventures without telling them he had a personal interest in the deals.

The organization proposes restitution, among other penalties.

In the criminal case, McKee has been released from jail. He didn’t return a call Wednesday for comment.
