EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- A man who shot and wounded a coworker last June at a Eugene hydraulics shop was sentenced in Lane County Circuit Court to more than seven years in prison.
Dale Brandon O'Callaghan pleaded guilty to assault after waiving his right to an insanity defense. The 39-year-old Eugene man said Tuesday he was delusional at the time, but takes responsibility for his actions.
The Register-Guard reports (http://is.gd/LTLAv1 ) the victim told police O'Callaghan called him "one of those satanic" people after shooting him. O'Callaghan's mother said at the time he was upset over ribbing by coworkers about expectations he would be taken up in the Rapture predicted by a radio preacher.
O'Callaghan's lawyer says he believes in the Rapture but is not a follower of that preacher.
