Western Carolina beats The Citadel 70-53

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) — Harouna Mutombo scored 24 points to lead Western Carolina over The Citadel 70-53 on Thursday night, snapping a three-game losing streak.

Keaton Cole added 15 points and Tawaski King grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Catamounts (11-17, 5-10 Southern Conference). The victory was just Western Carolina’s second in its past nine games.

Western Carolina led 34-30 at the break and outscored the Bulldogs 36-23 in the second half to seal the win. The Catamounts also outrebounded The Citadel 55-27 and forced 17 Bulldogs’ turnovers.

Mike Groselle finished with 17 points and pulled down 10 boards to pace The Citadel (4-22, 1-14), while Lawrence Miller added 14 points.

The Bulldogs have now lost 11 straight games, with their last win coming against Samford on Jan. 4. They also have an eight-game losing skid during this campaign.
