WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — A manslaughter trial is scheduled to begin Tuesday in Wenatchee for a man accused of killing a passer-by who offered to help him with a disabled van.

Chelan County Prosecutor Gary Riesen says he’ll seek an exceptional sentence under the “Good Samaritan Law” if 51-year-old Juan Manuel Gonzalez-Gonzalez is convicted.

Witnesses say Gonzalez’s van had broken down last June on a Wenatchee street and Jose Guadalupe Garcia-Sevilla walked up. Police say Gonzalez shook Garcia’s hand then punched him in the head. He fell to the ground and suffered a fatal skull fracture.

The Wenatchee World reports (http://is.gd/x74Do5 ) Gonzalez also is charged with assault involving a police officer who arrived.
