Monmouth (NJ) beats Mount St. Mary’s 68-66

EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) — Dion Nesmith scored 20 points and Andrew Nichols added 19 to lead Monmouth (N.J.) over Mount St. Mary’s 68-66 on Saturday night.

The Hawks (10-19, 8-8 Northeast Conference) trailed 60-51 with 9:12 remaining and went on a 13-2 run to go up by two on Mike Myers Keitt’s 3-pointer with 4:07 left.

Mount St. Mary’s (7-20, 5-11) made it the final margin on Kelvin Parker’s dunk with 52 seconds left, and missed on an opportunity to win it late, after Ed Waite missed both his free throws for the Hawks with 19 seconds left.

Josh Castellanos missed a layup for the Mountaineers with 6 seconds left, Julian Norfleet came down with the offensive rebound and turned it over.

Nesmith scored 17 of his points in the second half, helping Monmouth overcome 56.5 percent shooting (13 of 23) in the period by the Hawks.

Norfleet led the Hawks with 21 points.
