LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — With the first full squad workout still several days away, Detroit’s three biggest stars already are at spring training.

Prince Fielder entered the Tigers’ increasingly crowded clubhouse Monday, the day of Detroit’s first workout for pitchers and catchers. The rest of the team doesn’t officially start until Friday, but Fielder saw no reason to wait. The slugging first baseman agreed to a $214 million, nine-year contract with Detroit in the offseason.

He joins slugger Miguel Cabrera and ace Justin Verlander to form an imposing trio of MVP-caliber players in their primes. Cabrera is at camp already too, and Verlander’s first workout began Monday — which is also the right-hander’s 29th birthday.
