Letter: Questions persist about marriage

The Columbian

So now same-sex couples can get married in Washington state. That gives a new meaning to a long established language usage. And for what reason? They already had all the legal rights of a couple.

It seems they only wanted society’s moral approval.

And since the state’s right to regulate marriage has long been in the interest of the well-being of children, offspring of the couple, where does government enter here?

And while we’re dealing with this, what will our government do about the great number of heterosexual couples who procreate children without the protection of marriage?
