STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi State women’s basketball coach Sharon Fanning-Otis plans to retire at the end of the season.

Fanning-Otis has a 608-457 record over 36 seasons at Tennessee-Chattanooga, Kentucky and Mississippi State and is one of just 14 women’s basketball coaches with 600 career victories.

Fanning-Otis has won 281 games over 17 seasons with the Bulldogs, making the postseason 11 times, including six NCAA tournaments and the program’s only appearance in the round of 16. She was named the 2000 Southeastern Conference coach of the year.

Mississippi State athletic director Scott Stricklin released a statement thanking Fanning-Otis “for her devotion to our women’s basketball program for nearly two decades.”

Fanning-Otis plans on moving to a position with the Bulldog Club after the season, which is the athletic department’s private fundraising wing.
