Public hearing set for proposed hospice center

The state Department of Health will hold a public hearing at 10 a.m. Tuesday on a proposal by Community Home Health & Hospice to build a second hospice center in Clark County.

Comments from the hearing at Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St. in Vancouver, will help the health department decide whether a second hospice center is needed in the county.

PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center has objected to the project. PeaceHealth Southwest owns the only existing inpatient hospice center in the county and contends there isn’t enough demand for a second center. Community Home Health & Hospice argues the expanding senior population will create a need for the facility.

The health department is expected to decide whether to grant a certificate of need for the proposed project at the end of the hearing.
