Legends Wood Bat Baseball League is a Sunday afternoon Portland league for players 40 and older. Players 35-39 can play, though they may not pitch. Season runs from the first Sunday of June through the end of August, culminating in playoffs. Registration is now underway. The player fee this year is $250. BABE RUTH BASEBALL

Camas Washougal Babe Ruth Baseball League. Web site: www.cwbaberuth.com. This league serves players ages 13-15 who live in Cascade Park, and the cities of Camas and Washougal. The service area extends from I-205 east to Skamania County and south of Padden Parkway to the Columbia River. In-person registration has been completed for 2012. Hazel Dell Metro. Web site: www.hazeldellmetro.com. This league serves players ages 13-15 who live in Vancouver west of I-205, and covers all of Clark County north of Padden Parkway. In addition to Babe Ruth divisions for ages 13, and 14-15, HDM offers baseball on 70-foot basepaths for age 12.

Registration will take place at the HDM clubhouse at Columbia River High School from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 18. Players' birth certificate required, and a parent/guardian must be present to sign concussion form.

LITTLE LEAGUE

Little League's main season runs March-July, including All-Star play. Some leagues offer fall ball programs. Little League is an all-volunteer program. In Washington, it is organized into 11 districts, two of which serve The Columbian’s readership area. Registration for the main spring-summer season is held in January and February for most leagues, and for 2012 is listed below for some leagues. Boundary maps for the leagues in those districts are available on the district websites (listed below).

Here is some basic Little League information:

— Most leagues offer baseball and softball. For 2012, baseball is for players ages 5-18 are based on the player’s age on April 30, 2012. Softball for girls ages 5-18 are based on player’s age on Dec. 31, 2011.

— Practices begin in March and the Little League season runs through mid-June, followed by all-star competition.

— Little League is run by volunteers.

— Challenger Division. Battle Ground/Highlands, Columbia, and LaCamas are leagues that offer a Challenger Division for disabled players ages 20 and younger who live in southwest Washington.

All Weather Walkers — A non-profit walking club based in Vancouver. Youth Co-ed Flag Football Leagues for ages 7-9 or 10-12. Jan. 21 through March 17, 2012. Games are between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturdays at Marshall Park for ages 7-9 or at Hudson’s Bay High School for ages 10-12. Cost: $69.
