The suspect in a shooting at Jaggy Road Park in November 2010 made his first appearance Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder.

Dennzel T. Davis, 19, now of Salt Lake City, was extradited from Utah this week and appeared before Judge Scott Collier. The judge set bail at $500,000 and appointed attorney Tom Phelan to represent Davis.

Arraignment was set for March 7.

Prosecutors allege Davis went to the park, at Northeast 45th Street and 72nd Avenue, the evening of Nov. 4, 2010, for a marijuana deal.

According to court documents, a witness said Davis planned to commit a robbery for marijuana at the park. The witness stayed in the car, as Davis exited to meet the men for the deal.

Moments later, the man told police, two shots were fired and Davis ran back to the car. One of the shooting victims, later identified as 19-year-old Joseph Asciutto, ran back to the car with Davis. Meanwhile, the other shooting victim, Matthew Jarvis, 18, ran from the park to an apartment complex and was later transported to the hospital.

Jarvis’ injuries were not outlined in an affidavit filed with the court; Asciutto suffered a gunshot wound to the upper chest and was at one point in critical condition.
