The Battle Ground school board presented certificates of appreciation to Battle Ground High School students Samantha Coates and Kyle Harris on Feb. 13 for the roles they played in the Feb. 4 Walk to Stop benefit for youth suicide prevention.

More than 200 people participated and $2,000 was raised. “Thanks for making the community aware,” board president John Idsinga told the girls. Earlier in the same meeting, district counseling director Denice Harvey and Jodi Wicks, bereavement manager at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, led a 90-minute workshop about personal and social situations that can lead to youth suicide.
