2,000-gallon diesel spill in Seattle

SEATTLE (AP) — Two-thousand gallons of diesel have spilled from a derailed locomotive in the industrial Interbay area of Seattle.

Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore says no one was injured in the derailment at 8:12 a.m. Thursday, and the locomotive remains upright.

It’s uncertain what caused the diesel to leak from a 3,000-gallong tank.

Moore says the fuel spilled into storm drains, and crews are trying to get ahead of it before it reaches a body of water.

Firefighters are on the scene to prevent a fire.

Seattle Public Utilities and the Environmental Protection Agency have been notified.
