A 42-year-old woman was sent to the hospital as a precaution Thursday after her car left the roadway on state Highway 502 west of Battle Ground.

According to a Washington State Patrol release, Toni M. Shearer of Battle Ground was driving a 2003 Honda Civic east on N.E. 219th St. around 7:30 a.m. Her car left the road to the right, went into a ditch, hit a mailbox and came to a rest in some shrubs, the release said.

Shearer was sent to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center as a precaution.

State patrol said the crash was caused by a sleeping driver. Shearer was cited for second-degree negligent driving.

Clark County Fire & Rescue responded to the crash.
