SEABECK, Wash. (AP) — State parks officials have released the name of a ranger killed in a head-on crash near Seabeck, Wash.
Authorities say 44-year-old ranger Ed Johanson was driving home from work Friday night when a Ford Thunderbird crossed the center line and collided with his vehicle.
The crash happened in the Central Kitsap area, near Johanson’s home.
Kitsap County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ken Dickinson says the 35-year-old man driving the Thunderbird was arrested for suspicion of vehicular homicide and was being evaluated for narcotics. His bail was set at $500,000.
Dickinson says the Thunderbird driver and a passenger suffered minor injuries.
The State Parks and Recreation Commission said in a statement Saturday that Johanson was a ranger for roughly 20 years, serving at Kitsap Memorial State Park near Seabeck until his recent assignment to Kanaskat Palmer State Park in the Green River Gorge area.
The agency says Johanson known for his enthusiasm and passion.
