OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Advocates for the homeless in Olympia hope to move Camp Quixote into a permanent camp of about 30 one-room cottages with a common building for a kitchen and restrooms.
The Olympian reports (http://is.gd/kARuTg ) Thurston County commissioners are seeking a grant to help pay for Quixote Village, which would cost about $2.3 million. If everything goes as planned, work could start late this year or early next year.
About two dozen people are currently staying in Camp Quixote. It started in 2007 as a protest against an Olympia ordinance against sitting on downtown sidewalks. It moves about every six months from church to church and is now in the underground parking lot at the First Christian Church.
