The Camas girls’ first Sweet 16 run since 1978 will go no further.

The Papermakers lost 53-43 Saturday to Franklin High School of Seattle in a Class 3A regional game at Bellevue College, ending their season.

Franklin, ranked fourth in the state by The Seattle Times, advances to the eight-team state tournament beginning Thursday in the Tacoma Dome.

After trailing 12-8 through one quarter, Camas rallied for a 15-14 lead midway through the second. After Franklin regained the lead, a Kendra Preuninger 3-pointer brought Camas to within 20-18, but the Quakers went into halftime with a 25-21 advantage.

Tatum Schroeder made a pair of 3-pointers to bring Camas within 29-28 in the third period, but the quarter ended with Franklin holding a 35-30 lead.

From there, Camas couldn’t quite close the gap, although Sydney Allen helped the Papermakers stay within range by making six straight free throws in the final quarter.

Camas was led by Preuninger with 13 points and Schroeder with 10. JaDae Brundidge had a game-high 14 points for Franklin.

For Camas (19-9), the loss marked the end of a historic season for the program. The Papermakers reached the title game of the district tournament, then played their way into the regional final. Camas had reached the state Round of 16 once before, and that was 34 years ago.
