Morehead State tops SIU-Edwardsville 76-61

MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — Drew Kelly scored 21 points and Morehead State defeated Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville 76-61 on Saturday night to earn a split in the season series.

The Eagles led 31-22 at halftime and kept a double-digit lead for the final 6 minutes of the game.

Morehead State (17-14, 10-6 Ohio Valley Conference), which finished third in the conference and earned a first-round bye in the tournament, shot 50.9 percent (28 of 55) from the field.

Milton Chavis added 10 points for the Eagles, who have won two in a row and four of their past five.

SIU-Edwardsville committed 22 turnovers but shot 47.6 percent (20 of 42) from the field.

Both teams struggled from 3-point range — the Cougars made 7 of 19 and Morehead State was only 4 of 17.

Mark Yelovich and Corey Wickware each scored 18 points for the Cougars (9-17, 6-10), who had a two-game winning streak snapped.
