n Scott Staples, a lifelong Clark County resident, is a new partner and shareholder at the law firm of Schauermann, Thayer & Jacobs. Staples started work as a law clerk with the firm while attending law school at Willamette University in Salem, Ore. The firm was renamed Jan. 1 to reflect the addition of Staples to the firm, to Schauermann, Thayer, Jacobs & Staples.

n Christina Castle is the new business sales officer at Wells Fargo’s Business Banking Group. She will serve companies in the Vancouver-Portland metro area with annual sales of up to $20 million. Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Castle worked in similar positions for more than two years at J.P. Morgan Chase in Portland and for three years at KeyBank in Eugene, Ore. She is based in Vancouver.

n Tiffany Couch, principal and founder at Acuity Group PLLC, has been named a faculty member for the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Vancouver-based Acuity Group is a forensic accounting firm that specializes in fraud investigation, litigation support and business consulting. * 360-695-6431.

n Brian Carlson has been appointed to the position of president of Windermere Services Oregon, which provides support for more than 50 Windermere Real Estate offices in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Carlson joined Windermere Services Company in 2007 after nearly 26 years of experience in the Portland real estate market. Carlson replaces John Eskew who has held the post for the past six years.

n Lisa Schmidt of Ridgefield has been elected to chair the Clark County Waste Commission. Schmidt was commissioned by the Clark County Commissioners in 2008.

• Alesha Magallanes has opened Chocolate Cottage, a drive-through chocolate shop at 4409 N.E. 78th St. She will sell a variety of chocolate treats including truffles, cake pops, fudge, dipped chocolates, unusual candy bars and bottled beverages. She will also accept custom orders. Magallanes sells many chocolate items in area stores under the name Chocolate Enjoymints. n A Touch of Class, Clark County Skills Center’s student-operated restaurant, has re-opened to the public after a three-week hiatus. Students who are enrolled in the restaurant management and culinary arts program at the Skills Center manage the restaurant, 12200 N.E. 28th St. The Skills Center is owned and operated by 10 southwest Washington School Districts. The restaurant’s normal hours are from 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. for breakfast and from 11:45 am to 1 p.m. for lunch Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. * Breakfast and lunch reservations can be made in advance with Robbin McColley, 360-604-1054.

• StitchCraft, which featured natural fibers and organic materials in addition to classes, is closing its doors. Nicholette Hoyer opened the store in May 2008. She will continue to maintain her Blog and Facebook communications. The closing sale will continue until merchandise, fixtures and shop samples are sold. Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

• Three Brothers Vineyard & Winery in Ridgefield won several awards for their wines at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. The awards included a Gold Medal for its 2008 Zinfandel ,along with Bronze Medals for its 2009 Eau Dans Vin, 2008 Brethren Cuvee and 2008 Malbec. The San Francisco event is the largest competition of American wines in the world, with more than 5,000 wines being submitted from 23 states.
