NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) — The sea lions who hang out on the “Bachelor’s Row” docks in Newport on the Oregon coast have become a tourist attraction.

But old age, wear and tear by the half-ton creatures and stormy coastal weather have taken a toll on the docks. The Oregonian newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/zJNehC) some people are trying to save the docks.

But not everyone thinks the docks should be replaced. Some say the docks were never intended for the sea lions in the first place. They were built about 18 years ago as transit docks for recreation boaters. About 15 years ago the male sea lions figured out it was a good place to haul out on the docks.
