CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — Teacher Joe Ricci had just begun class at his suburban Cleveland high school when he heard shots and slammed the door to his classroom, yelling, “Lockdown!” to students.

Minutes later, he heard moaning outside, opened the door and pulled in a student who had been shot several times.

Authorities say a teenager who opened fire in the cafeteria of Chardon High School on Monday killed one student and wounded four others before he was captured near his car a half-mile away. He was not immediately charged.

Students, administrators and law enforcement officials are trying to figure out what happened and why.
