LONDON (AP) — The British Olympic Association says athlete support for its lifetime doping ban has significantly declined.

Sport’s highest court will hold a hearing in two weeks to determine whether Britain can remain the only country that will enforce such a sanction against doping cheats at the London Olympics.

BOA chairman Colin Moyinhan has previously insisted that at least 90 percent of British Olympians supported lifetime bans. Moyinhan now says backing for the lifetime ban could have dropped as low as 70 percent, based on an assessment of media coverage and polls since a key Court of Arbitration for Sport decision.

The International Olympic Committee’s rule that barred athletes from competing in the next games if they received a drug ban of more than six months was thrown out last year.
