Savannah State beats NC A&T 62-50 for 12th in row

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Deric Rudolph scored 15 points and Preston Blackman 14 as Savannah State defeated North Carolina A&T 62-50 Monday night for its 12th consecutive victory.

The Tigers (20-10, 13-2), in their first year of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference competition, remained one game ahead of second-place Norfolk State in the regular-season title race.

Rudolph scored all of his points in the first half, including a 3-pointer that put the Tigers ahead to stay, 21-19, with 11:41 left until halftime. They finished the half on a 24-9 run to lead 42-28, and they continued to hold double-digit leads throughout the second half.

Jared Williams scored 12 points and DaMetrius Upchurch scored all 10 of his points in the first half to lead the Aggies (12-18, 7-8).

The last Savannah State team to win 20 games in a season was the 1980-81 squad that went 25-4 while competing in Division III.
