FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Justin Morneau is on the mend with the Minnesota Twins and says he hopes to play in the team’s first exhibition game Saturday.

The former AL MVP has been plagued by concussions and several other injuries over the last two seasons. He raised some eyebrows when he reported to camp and openly wondered if he could come back from another concussion.

But Morneau said Wednesday he was just being realistic. He also says he has felt good through the first week of spring training, much better than this time last season.

Morneau hit a double and a homer off of Francisco Liriano in batting practice Tuesday.

Morneau says he’s just trying to be patient and make sure that he’s ready for opening day.
