Rhode Island drops Fordham 78-58

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) -- Anthony Malhoit scored a career-high 21 points and Orion Outerbridge notched a double-double, leading Rhode Island over Fordham 78-58 on Wednesday night.

Outerbridge, who scored 15 points and grabbed 13 boards for his fifth double-double of the season, also blocked three shots -- that put him over 100 for his career. Mike Powell added 11 points and Jonathan Holton pulled down 12 boards for Rhode Island (7-23, 4-11 Atlantic 10 Conference), which has now won two straight games.

Rhode Island led from wire to wire, opening on a 20-6 run for a 14-point halftime lead. The squad outscored Fordham 43-37 in the second half to seal it, avenging a loss at Fordham on Jan. 18.

Branden Frazier had 20 points to lead Fordham (10-18, 3-12) and Devon McMillan added 10. Fordham has lost seven of its last eight contests.
