CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A person familiar with the situation says the Jaguars have contacted the Carolina Panthers about interviewing offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski for Jacksonville’s vacant head coaching job.

The person spoke to The Associated Press Monday on the condition of anonymity because neither team had publicly announced the request.

Chudzinski joined the Panthers this year and took the Panthers from ranked dead last in the NFL in total offense to seventh this year. The Panthers finished with a team-record 6,237 total yards, the most in franchise history.

The Jaguars fired Jack Del Rio earlier this season and replaced him with interim coach Mel Tucker.
