EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A 21-year-old Eugene man was sentenced Tuesday in Lane County to a mandatory 10-year prison term for a crash that killed a University of Oregon student and injured seven other people.

Brandon Schooley pleaded guilty last month to manslaughter and assault charges in connection with the January 2010 crash on Highway 101 near Haceta Head.

The head-on collision killed UO student David Chai, a 25-year-old from South Korea.

The Register-Guard reports (http://is.gd/8u5U72 ) Schooley’s car was speeding about 65 mph around a curve in the rain when it crossed the centerline.
