LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas coach Charlie Weis has tapped into his connections to Notre Dame and hired Rob Ianello as the Jayhawks’ wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.

The school announced the hiring in a statement Tuesday.

Ianello was fired in November after going 2-22 in two seasons at Akron. Before that, he spent five seasons as an assistant under Weis in South Bend, coaching wide receivers and coordinating the Fighting Irish’s recruiting efforts.

He later served as interim coach when Weis was fired.

Weis already has hired Ron Powlus, his quarterbacks coach at Notre Dame, in the same capacity at Kansas. Powlus coached quarterbacks under Ianello at Akron, too.
