ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Mount Ashland ski area has closed temporarily, hoping for a good storm to provide snow and cover the runs now too rocky for skis and boards.
The closure is a symptom of a regional warm spell.
The Medford Mail Tribune (http://shttp://bit.ly/xXCpXG ) reports that the snowpack in southwestern Oregon’s Rogue and Umpqua drainages, as of Monday, is at a third of normal.
The ski area has struggled recently as a result. Only three of four runs could be operated. Rain last week led the ski area to close Friday, but 2 inches of snow fell that night, and skiing resumed Saturday. The area shut down again on Monday.
