HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The fatal shooting of a ranger at Mount Rainier National Park in Washington state is touching her former co-workers in Maryland.
The superintendent of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park told The Herald-Mail newspaper of Hagerstown on Monday that Margaret Anderson worked there from 2004 to 2008 (http://bit.ly/wqTbdC).
She was shot and killed Sunday. National Park Service officials say the suspected gunman was found dead at Mount Rainier on Monday. He is believed to have died from exposure to the elements.
C&O Canal Superintendent Kevin Brandt says Anderson was "a consummate ranger." She worked in a section of the park between Sharpsburg and the Great Falls of the Potomac.
Brandt says Anderson and her husband had two daughters.
