3-year-old Ellensburg boy scalded in bath

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (AP) -- An Ellensburg couple is accused of scalding their 3-year-old boy in a hot bath to punish him for failing to use the toilet.
The 25-year-old father and 28-year-old stepmother appeared in Kittitas County Superior Court on Tuesday and were ordered held for investigation of charges of child assault and criminal mistreatment.
The Daily Record reports (http://is.gd/fcsfqY ) police were called when the boy was treated at a Seattle hospital on New Year's Eve for second-degree burns. The parents said the boy had climbed into the bath before they could check the temperature.
