ITTIGEN, Switzerland (AP) — Swiss Olympic official Gian Gilli has been asked to develop a joint bid by Davos and St. Moritz to host the 2022 Winter Games.

Switzerland’s Olympic committee says Gilli has been appointed operations director for the proposed bid by the luxury Alpine resorts.

Gilli will combine the role with his duties as chef de mission for the Swiss team at the 2012 London Olympics.

A formal Swiss bid for 2022 needs approval from the country’s sports federations at a meeting in April.

Residents of the Graubunden state that includes Davos and St. Moritz are also scheduled to vote on the project in November.

Switzerland last staged the Winter Olympics in 1948 at St. Moritz, which also hosted the 1924 Games.
