Florida Atlantic stifles Louisiana-Monroe 58-30

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Greg Gantt scored 20 points and Florida Atlantic held Louisiana-Monroe to only seven first-half points en route to a 58-30 victory Thursday night.

The Warhawks shot only 19.5 percent from the field (8 of 41) and scored their fewest points since losing to Louisiana Tech 34-27 on Feb. 10, 1959.

The Owls (5-10, 1-1 Sun Belt Conference) jumped out to an 11-0 lead, with Louisiana-Monroe 0 for 9 until Charles Winborne’s 3-pointer at the 10:15 mark. The Warhawks (1-15, 0-3) did not score in the final 5:42 to trail 23-7 at the break.

Louisiana-Monroe closed to 31-21 with 12:02 left before Florida Atlantic pulled away with a 12-2 spurt.

Raymond Taylor added 10 points and eight assists for the Owls, who shot only 30 percent in the first half (9 of 30) and improved to 56 percent in the second (14 of 25).

Hugh Mingo’s 12 points led the Warhawks.
