UNC Asheville defeats Virginia Military 94-85

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Matt Dickey scored 23 points and four teammates finished in double figures as UNC Asheville defeated Virginia Military Institute Thursday night in Big South Conference play.

The Bulldogs (9-6, 4-0) played team ball against VMI (7-7, 2-2). Dickey’s backcourt mate, J.P. Primm, scored 21 points, hit all 10 of his foul shots and had seven assists. Chris Stephenson scored 17 points, Jeremy Atkinson 16 and Trent Meyer came off the Bulldogs’ bench to score 10 points.

UNC Asheville shot a season-high 52.6 per cent on 3s (10 of 19), went 20 for 24 at the line and made only nine turnovers.

Stan Okoye had a 23-point, 11-rebound double-double for VMI. Keith Gabriel added 20 points, Michael Sparks 19 and Rodney Glasgow 10. But after getting within four points early in the second half, the Keydets got no closer. UNC Asheville opened up a 61-49 lead and eased on home.
