Wenatchee arson that killed boys remains unsolved

WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — Police are blaming “gang mentality” for slow progress in their investigation of an arson that killed two boys, ages 4 and 6, last August in Wenatchee.

They were trapped in the burning duplex. Their parents escaped but their father was badly burned.

Sgt. John Kruse told The Wenatchee World (http://is.gd/g3N0n1 ) investigators believe some people know who is responsible, but gang loyalties or the fear of retaliation prevents them from talking with police. He says they have several suspects.

The owner of the fire-damaged duplex, David Barajas, is having it torn down this week so that he can rebuild on the property.

A 5-month-old memorial of toys and stuffed animals remains at the base of a nearby tree. He can’t bear to take the toys away.
