CHICAGO (AP) — The Cubs have traded right-hander Andrew Cashner to the San Diego Padres for first baseman Anthony Rizzo and minor league right-hander Zach Cates.

San Diego also receives minor league outfielder Kyung-Min Na in the deal.

Cashner was slated to be the Cubs’ fifth starter last season but strained his shoulder in early April and made only seven appearances, including one start. He was Chicago’s first-round pick in 2008 and pitched in 60 games for the Cubs over two years, making one start.

Rizzo spent most of last season in Triple-A and batted .141 with a homer and nine RBIs in 49 games with the Padres over two stints.

He was acquired by San Diego as part of the deal that sent Adrian Gonzalez to the Red Sox.
