MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) -- Police have identified a 20-year-old man shot and killed by federal marshals in the busy parking lot of a Medford supermarket.

Police Chief Tim George told the Mail Tribune (http://bit.ly/ywKNuU) his office will investigate the Thursday night shooting of James Harrison Georgeson, Jr., of Medford.

The U.S. Marshals Service say officers fired at Georgeson when he rammed his SUV into cars carrying officers trying to arrest him for violating his probation from a 2009 conviction for assaulting a deputy marshal.

Georgeson served two years, and last October admitted using drugs in violation of his probation.

The paper says four vehicles were damaged. Some shoppers told their children to avert their eyes, while others crowded the police tape to take pictures of the body.
