BEND, Ore. (AP) — Bend police believe they’ve caught the man responsible for lighting three cars on fire on the city’s west side, and are trying to determine if he may be behind other suspicious fires in recent months.

Matthew Stahlheber, a 19-year-old Bend man, was arrested and jailed Friday, and faces three counts each of first-degree arson and first-degree criminal mischief, the Bend Bulletin reports (http://bit.ly/xh6PtU ).

The Nov. 27 fires destroyed three cars. One of them burned two feet from an occupied home.

Police have not determined if Stahlheber knew the owners of the three vehicles in late November, but are considering the possibility as all three fires were within a few blocks of Stahlheber’s home.
