Letter: Bolstered by governor’s stand

There are simply not enough words to express how proud I am to live in the state of Washington. The simple fact that I live in a state where our governor is willing to stand up for what is right and support marriage equality makes me so happy. I know the battle is only beginning, but having the support of Gov. Chris Gregoire lets me know there is hope.

Whether there is enough support in the Legislature is yet to be seen, and even more so, in the people of this great state. That said, I believe and hope for the best in people.

Should it pass, the law allowing two people of the same gender to marry will have absolutely no effect on the lives and marriages of others. It will not force churches to support or participate in the legal union of individuals of the same or opposite gender, if they do not wish to. It will not damage families or communities.

Allowing two people of the same gender, who love and support each other, to marry will create stronger families and better communities. It will make this state an even better place to live and work.
