Villopoto opens Supercross title defense with win

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Defending champion Ryan Villopoto won the season opener of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, beating Chad Reed and Ryan Dungey at Angel Stadium on Saturday night.

Villopoto, the Kawasaki rider from Poulsbo, Wash., won at Anaheim for the second straight year, beating Reed by 12.2 seconds.

Cole Seely of Murrieta, Calif., won the Supercross Lites race. The Honda rider secured the lead on the second lap and went on to his third career victory. Tyla Rattray, of Wildomar, Calif., was second on his Kawasaki.
