OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Steven Gonzalez has been sworn in as the newest member of the Washington state Supreme Court.
Monday’s ceremony was at the Temple of Justice in Olympia.
Gonzalez was appointed in November by Gov. Chris Gregoire to replace Justice Gerry (gary) Alexander who retired. Gonzalez will have to run for election in November.
He joins the high court from the King County Superior Court. He previously worked as an assistant U.S. attorney and assistant city attorney in Seattle.
Gonzalez serves as the chairman of the Washington State Access to Justice Board and also is a co-chairman of the Race and Criminal Justice System Task Force.
