MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Ivory White and Tramaine Butler scored 14 points each as Alabama State defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 62-55 Monday night in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game.

The Hornets (6-10, 3-1) increased a 24-23 halftime lead to 30-23 in the first 112 minutes of the second half on a basket by Phillip Crawford and two by Butler.

Alabama State’s lead reached 15 points, 53-38, after White’s jumper with 6:57 remaining and a basket by Crawford 15 seconds later after an offensive rebound.

Savalace Townsend, the conference’s scoring leader, had 23 points to pace the Golden Lions (1-15, 0-3), who trimmed Alabama State’s lead to 59-55 with 47 seconds left. But Jeff Middlebrooks made a pair of free throws to restore a six-point margin for the Hornets, who were just 6 of 18 from the line in the game.

Crawford added 10 points for the Hornets, and he and White each had 10 rebounds.
