Man in gallery lunges from bench, hits defendant

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A rowdy Portland, Ore., court sentencing turned briefly violent when a man in the gallery leaped from his seat and punched the defendant in the face.

The scrum broke out Monday as defendant Thomas Kolpin was being walked to the front of the courtroom.

The Oregonian reports that (http://bit.ly/z0TxjF) Kolpin was being sentenced to 10 years for manslaughter for fatally stabbing a man he found with his ex-girlfriend.

About half a dozen men wearing white T-shirts imprinted with the victim's photo and "R.I.P." were in the courtroom for the sentencing, along with about 20 other people.

Randy Sturdevant was arrested for investigation of fourth-degree assault. He was among those wearing the T-shirts.
